Last year’s iCommons Summit in Rio de Janeiro was one of the most exciting events for creative and commons knowledge pioneers from around the world. In 2006 the community-driven programme not only discussed tools and practices, but also fostered greater interest in policies and legal issues.

As part of this year’s iCommons Summit 2007 in Dubrovnik Creative Commons International invites all CC jurisdiction project leads and teams to participate in the “CCi Legal Day” to be held as a closed workshop on June 14th, 2007.

This separate day – one day ahead of the actual iSummit events - is structured towards giving CC Project Leaders and legal experts the opportunity to discuss legal issues and international aspects of the Creative Commons licenses. The programme includes sessions about future versioning and strategies in regards to the different national licenses as well as an intense discussion about next steps in a possible collaboration with Collecting Societies. Presentations about recent statistics are on the agenda as well as a lecture about International Private Law issues.

One of the CCi Legal Day highlights will be a talk by Lawrence Lessig and a discussion about strategies of future licenses. As part of the afternoon programme, CCi is also expecting David Uwemedimo, Director of Legal Affairs at CISAC (International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers) to join the conversation and give a presentation about Collecting Societies.

We hope this day will benefit participants by kicking off interesting discussion around legal aspects of Creative Commons licenses and we are very much looking forward to a day of fruitful discussions and interesting meetings.
